In “The Scorch Trials”, by James Dashner, one of the main themes is that true friends stick together until the end. To begin with, Minho risks his own life to save Thomas in a terrible storm. “Then someone was grabbing him, pulling him to his feet. Minho (Dashner, 135). This quote shows that Minho was willing to spend, maybe his last seconds alive, with Thomas. Another great example of this is when the “Gladers” are talking to Jorge; Minho is right next to Thomas’ side, and ready to fight for Thomas if needed. Minho being ready to fight for Thomas shows how far a true friend might go. Minho backs up Thomas, even if Minho may not agree with him. Last of all, Thomas helps one of the other “Gladers” get a blob off his head, which turns solid. Even though Thomas knows that the blob could get on him and turn solid, he attempts to get the blob off. All in all, one of the main themes for this page turning book is that true friends stay together through everything. Thomas and Minho both risk their own lives for others.
Another theme in “The Scorch Trials”, by James Dashner, is that a job usually gets done more efficiently with a team. The first indication of this is when the “Gladers” work together to find and save Thomas and Brenda from the “Cranks”. “Jorge, Newt and Aris were there, standing guard, slowly turning in circles with knifes drawn and pointing” (Dashner, 230). The “Gladers” worked together to save Thomas and Brenda. If the “Gladers” did not work together, Thomas and Brenda would not have been saved. Secondly, a “Crank” was trying to cut off Thomas’s ear. Brenda and Thomas work together to kill the “Crank”. Brenda held the “Crank” down while Thomas kills him. Finally, the girl group, also known as Group B, attempts to help Thomas get to the safe haven. Despite the girls going against Thomas, they all agree to help him get there. The girls get him close to the safe haven. In conclusion, another theme in this book is that the job gets done more efficiently with a team. The “Gladers” work together to save Brenda and Thomas, Thomas and Brenda work together to kill a “Crank”, and Group B gets Thomas close to the Safe Haven by working as a team.
